Don’t Tell Me What To Do
Don’t Tell Me What To Do!!
Does it slightly irritate you when someone “tells you what to do”? I have been in so many situations, that I have been told, “Do this or do it like this, or why are you doing it like that”?
Sometimes, I silently think and feel to myself that the other person thinks I’m incapable of doing something, even though I have been doing it for years.
Fast forward, I now find myself sharing with my daughter how she ought to do something and now I hear the very same words spoken back to me. I hear her say “ I know, I know, mom, I know!”. This got me thinking. I only mean well by her. I want her to be the best and not to be corrected by someone less loving and less kind, but in her mind and in my mind (back then) I could only focus on “don’t tell me what to do”.
This brings me back to a young man named Joshua. He was appointed by God to lead people into a land promised by God. So this means many people were going to rely on Him for motivation, discipline, corrections and YES, to tell them “what to do”. Had the Israelites had this same mentality as you and I of “don’t tell me what to do”, they likely would have not encountered the promise of God.
Does God know His children? I believe so, since the words be strong and courageous were stated 3 times in just the first chapter as He instructed Joshua. Maybe Joshua didn’t like hearing it as well, but maybe that’s just what Joshua would need. A reminder. A triple reminder, to lead him and those that he was leading to the promise-land.
Sip, sip-on this...
The next time you feel like someone is telling you what to do...could it be received different today? Maybe, we actually need the loving reminder. Maybe, your success is the bigger goal and NOT someone simply “ telling us what to do”!
"Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do." Joshua 1:7 NLT
